Benjamin Lafayette Sisko by HeavenhairSixes Benjamin Lafayette Sisko by HeavenhairSixes
I started this in GIMP as a 'plan' for an acrylic painting and it wasn't intended to be especially detailed or 'finished' looking - but for some reason I really like it like this. I don't know why.

And yes, Babylon 5 was more better, but Sisko was still awesome!

I'm on facebook now and also have a facebook page for my art there.  It is probably the best place to get hold of me these days if anybody wants me for anything.  Let me know if you want to be friends or like me and have me like you back whatever.

Ah, one of my favorite captains. This art perfectly gives back Captain Sisko. The background choice was also good as it is blending with the black part of the Starfleet uniform.

Thanks!  The background was clearly an aesthetic choice rather than just laziness!

I haven't adapted well to technology. I just use the brush tool like I would with traditional art and get intimidated by all the other options!

But thank you, even though it is just me being a stick in the mud rather than talented!

Thanks! I think the rough painted look comes from being OK at traditional art but bad at software!

I like DS9 better, because the villains were awesome and as complex as the main characters, but I love B5 too.

DS9 did have great villains. It is a great show when you care as much about the villains and morally ambiguous characters as anyone else!

I still think Babylon 5 had the best plot though!

Every time he's on screen I just have a big grin on my face, I love seeing him interact with Sisko and Kira.

Garrak I also love to death. Possibly my favourite character.

when Quark appeared, i felt instant disgust for him, come on, a Ferengi, theyre supposed to be hateful. BUT...overtime, you agree with him, and his ideas helped me a bunch.
I loved all this "Las Vegas backstage conspiracy" on Deep Space Nine, its strangely very realistic.

I love the relationship between Odo and Quark, any scene with them together is gold. I love how they really developed him over time. In TNG the Ferengi were a complete joke, but DS9 managed to make the entire race unique and complex.

Oh yeah loved that episode. I really loved 'Our Man Bashir' where they did the James Bond stuff, that was really cool.

Indeed, in "Deep Space Nine" the writers felt that the gloves were off, both in comedy and drama. Early in season 2, when Odo was drawn to meet his people, you were feeling there was a "storm in the horizon".

ah, Bashir always had great scenes and lines, since the beginning, "I want to be here, in the wilderness", and then Kira "This wilderness..is my home". hahaha

PS: season 1 is fresh in memory cause i just re-watched the entire DVD box :)

DS9 is one of my favorite sets, I didn't think I would like it at first being that it was on a space station, but I loved it. This Sisko picture is amazing

I wasn't optimistic about, but it certainly grew on me. Mainly I think because of the great cast and characters. I had to try and do Sisko justice!

I really like the results it looks great and I think you captured his expression he always had this distant, lost in his thoughts eyes. What ever some people might say I enjoyed Deep Space Nine and the character of Sisko he was interesting. Great job !

Thanks!

He had some great expressions. I wouldn't know how to describe them, I'm not great at that kind of thing. But I loved the stare he did during space disasters and alien invasions that looked like he had gone to the toilet and then realised that he was out of paper. Which is what I tried to capture here.

I do so love Star Trek personally, and I thought Sisko was always a good captain. I hate that so many people dislike Deep Space Nine. It wasn't all that bad. Certainly entertaining at least.
Anyway, wonderful work on this.

I think a lot of sci-fi fans took issue with DS9 because they felt it ripped off Babylon 5. The original series was my favourite but out of the newer stuff I like DS9 the most just because of Sisko. He was absolutely brilliant!

I was never a Babylon 5 fan, so I suppose that's why I didn't realize.
My wife and I are re-watching the original series. It's even better than I remembered which is saying something. Haha! I'm happy enough to hear someone else enjoys watching Sisko do his thing. ^_^

If i may, id like to suggest you to watch "Babylon 5" from beggining to end in order, it is as important as the original "Star Trek". It is really surprising, the 5th and final season had me crying rivers.

I know I couldn't help but think of [link] when I posted it.

I didn't think much of Star Trek: TNG compared to the original series and after Babylon 5 I was fairly determined not to enjoy DS9. But in the end I thought that although the DS9 plots were relatively weak it had a great cast and characters that I found interesting.

But don't even get me started on Firefly and Lexx vs Voyager and Enterprise...

Haha, I was thinking of it as well. Great minds do think alike.

I never really got into TNG, but I can say the DS9 had some good characters, and it's cast was quite good. B5 had probably the best sci-fi story that I have ever enjoyed, but since JMS had Harlan Ellison as a wing man it's hard not to do well.

Firefly and Lexx(you're forgetting Farscape) vs Voyager and Enterprise? It's no contest Firefly, Farscape, and Lexx obliterate the two weakest Star Trek series. Lexx was amazing, it really got into my head, the dark humor, the sex, and helpless schlub, and how can you beat Eva Habbermann? Firefly was fun, and my favorite Joss Whedon series. As for Farscape that is a show that had me hooked, and still does. I think it's the mature use of the Jim Henson puppets, and the acting for one episode is better than the whole of Voyger. Just saying.

Aside from Star Trek (which you can watch several times a day) most sci-fi has been relegated to fairly obscure channels / time slots over here. I never got the chance to see Farscape, although I'm not surprised to hear that the Voyager crew were out-acted by a cast that included muppets.

Firefly I bought on DVD without seeing an episode because it was Joss Whedon and I certainly didn't regret that purchase. Nobody will ever convince me it was fair that there were more episodes of the steaming pile of soulless poop that was Voyager than Firefly.

Lexx I only got to see because I was working as barstaff and it was on TV at about 1am when I got home, and I was utterly amazed by it. I think it was followed by Oz, which I also loved and otherwise wouldn't have heard of...

That's the same here with the scheduling thing, and also that's if we actually get the show. They are so scared to take a chance on good sci-fi. The Voyager cast was about as full of life as a half assed sock puppet, and a card board cutout. But the muppets are something to behold. A foot tall deposed king on a hover throne beats out a pair of pointy ears any day.

It wasn't fair what Fox did to Firefly, but I am glad I atleast got those episodes, those episodes are a revelation, and helped shape me storytelling wise, and I want a crappy down named after me too.

You know, the combonation of Lexx and OZ isn't that unusual. It's quite fitting. It's the kind of show that I wish would return to tv, or hell dvd. Either way, I am glad to have it and lost it, than not have had it at all.
